Falukorv with Mashed Potatoes and Lingonberry Sauce

Falukorv is a beloved traditional Swedish sausage, rich in history and flavor. This dish brings together the savory taste of pan-fried falukorv, golden and crispy on the outside, paired with creamy mashed potatoes seasoned to perfection. The tangy sweetness of lingonberry sauce adds a delightful contrast, making each bite a celebration of Swedish culinary heritage. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a comforting meal any time of the year.

Ingredients

Falukorv
1 pound, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
Butter
4 tablespoons, divided
Salt
to taste
Pepper
to taste
Potatoes
2 pounds, peeled and diced
Lingonberry sauce
1/2 cup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing the falukorv into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the sliced falukorv.
  3. Cook the falukorv for about 5 minutes on each side, or until it is beautifully browned and heated through.
  4. While the falukorv is cooking, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully add the diced potatoes and cook until tender, approximately 10 minutes.
  5. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter, salt, and pepper to taste. Mash the potatoes until they are smooth and creamy.
  6. Once the falukorv is ready, serve it alongside the mashed potatoes, with a generous spoonful of lingonberry sauce on the side.

Tips

  • 💡 For a twist, try adding sautéed onions or garlic to the mashed potatoes for extra flavor.
  • 💡 If you can't find lingonberry sauce, cranberry sauce can be a delicious substitute.
  • 💡 Falukorv can also be grilled for a smoky flavor or baked in the oven for a different texture.
