Historically, figs have been cherished since ancient times for their sweetness and nutritional benefits, making this recipe a timeless classic.
Ingredients
- Fresh figs
- 12, ripe
- Blue cheese
- 1 cup, crumbled
- Almonds
- 1/2 cup, chopped
- Honey
- 2 tablespoons
- Fresh thyme leaves
- 1 tablespoon, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Rinse the fresh figs gently and pat them dry. Cut a small slit in the top of each fig to create a pocket for the filling.
- Using a small spoon or your fingers, stuff each fig with approximately 1 tablespoon of crumbled blue cheese, pressing gently to fill the pocket.
- In a separate bowl, combine the chopped almonds, honey, and fresh thyme leaves. Mix well until the almonds are evenly coated with honey.
- Generously sprinkle the almond crumble mixture over the stuffed figs, ensuring each fig is topped with a good amount of the crunchy topping.
- Place the stuffed figs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the almonds are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm as an elegant appetizer or as part of a sophisticated cheese platter.
Tips
- For added flavor, consider drizzling a bit of balsamic glaze over the figs before serving.
- You can substitute walnuts or pecans for the almonds for a different nutty flavor.
- If you prefer a milder cheese, try using goat cheese instead of blue cheese.
