Fig and Honey Glazed Nuts
Experience the perfect blend of flavors with these Fig and Honey Glazed Nuts. This ancient snack, dating back to the Roman times, is a delightful combination of crunchy mixed nuts, sweet dried figs, and luscious honey, all beautifully accentuated by a dash of cinnamon and a sprinkle of salt. The result is an irresistible treat that not only satisfies your sweet tooth but also provides a wealth of nutritional benefits.
Ingredients
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon
- Honey
- 1/3 cup
- Dried figs
- 1 cup, chopped
- Mixed nuts
- 2 cups
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixed nuts and chopped dried figs. Toss until well mixed.
- In a small saucepan, gently heat the honey until it becomes slightly runny. This should take about 1-2 minutes over low heat. Be careful not to let it boil or it will become too thick.
- Pour the warm honey over the nut and fig mixture. Add the cinnamon and salt. Mix well until every piece is evenly coated.
- Spread the mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Ensure the nuts and figs are spread out evenly and not too clustered to ensure even roasting.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the nuts are golden brown and emit a fragrant, toasted aroma. Be sure to stir the mixture halfway through baking to ensure even roasting and prevent burning.
- Remove from the oven and let cool completely. The glaze will harden as it cools, creating a delightful crunch.
- Once cooled, break apart any large clusters into bite-sized pieces and store in an airtight container. Enjoy as a standalone snack, or use as a delicious and nutritious topping for salads and desserts.
Tips
- For an added twist, try adding a dash of nutmeg or cardamom. If you're a fan of heat, a pinch of cayenne pepper can give these glazed nuts a surprising kick. For a vegan option, substitute the honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
