Ingredients

Original recipe serves 6

All-purpose flour
3 cups
Sugar
1 teaspoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
Dried herbs (oregano, basil, or thyme)
1 tablespoon
Garlic powder
1 teaspoon
Olive oil
2 tablespoons, plus additional for brushing
Warm water
1 cup (110°f or 43°c)
Active dry yeast
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt, and sugar. Mix well to ensure even distribution.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil.
  4. Stir the mixture until a dough starts to form, then transfer it to a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  8. Roll out each portion into a thin circle or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  9. Place the rolled flatbreads on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the flatbreads are golden brown and slightly crispy.
  10. Remove the flatbreads from the oven and immediately brush them with additional olive oil. Sprinkle with extra herbs and a touch of salt, if desired.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious garlic herb flatbread!

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the dough mixture.
  • 💡 You can experiment with different herbs to create your own unique flavor profile.
  • 💡 These flatbreads can also be grilled instead of baked for a smoky flavor.
