Garlic Herb Flatbreads

These delightful homemade garlic herb flatbreads are soft, pillowy, and bursting with flavor, making them the perfect accompaniment for dips, spreads, or your favorite dishes. Originating from ancient traditions of bread-making, flatbreads have been a staple across cultures for centuries. The combination of fresh herbs and garlic elevates these simple breads into a gourmet treat, ideal for sharing at gatherings or enjoying on a quiet evening at home.

Serves 6

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
2 cups
Baking powder
1 teaspoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Garlic powder
1 teaspoon
Dried herbs (oregano, basil, or thyme)
2 teaspoons
Olive oil
2 tablespoons
Warm water
3/4 cup
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons, melted
Fresh parsley
2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and dried herbs. Whisk together to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.
  2. Add the olive oil and warm water to the dry mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, place one flatbread in the skillet.
  6. Cook each flatbread for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through. Adjust the heat as necessary to avoid burning.
  7. Remove the flatbreads from the skillet and brush each with melted butter.
  8. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a burst of color and flavor.
  9. Serve warm, and enjoy with your favorite dips, spreads, or as a side to your favorite dishes!

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the dough.
  • 💡 Experiment with different herbs to create your own flavor combinations.
  • 💡 These flatbreads can be stored in an airtight container for a few days or frozen for longer storage.
