Ingredients

Original recipe serves 4

Fig jam
1/2 cup
Black pepper
to taste, freshly cracked
Sea salt
to taste
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons
French baguette
1, sliced into 1/2 inch rounds
Foie gras
8 ounces, sliced into 1/4 inch thick pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the French baguette into thin rounds, about 1/2 inch thick, and arrange them on a baking sheet.
  3. Toast the baguette slices in the preheated oven until they are golden brown and crisp, approximately 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
  4. While the bread is toasting, slice the foie gras into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Heat a pan over medium heat and add the unsalted butter, allowing it to melt and foam.
  6. Once the butter is sizzling, gently add the foie gras slices to the pan. Sear on each side for about 1 minute, until they are lightly browned and warmed through. Be careful not to overcook, as foie gras can become tough.
  7. Remove the foie gras from the pan and set aside on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess fat.
  8. Spread a thin layer of fig jam on each toasted baguette point, ensuring an even coating.
  9. Top each toast point with a slice of seared foie gras, allowing the rich flavors to meld with the sweetness of the jam.
  10. Season with freshly cracked sea salt and black pepper to taste.
  11. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh herbs such as microgreens or chives if desired.

Tips

  • 💡 For a twist, try adding a dollop of balsamic reduction on top for an extra layer of flavor.
  • 💡 If you prefer a milder taste, consider substituting the fig jam with a fruit compote, such as apricot or cherry.
  • 💡 Ensure the foie gras is cold before slicing for easier handling.
