Indulge in a heartwarming, gooey and luxurious Swiss Style Fondue! This classic blend of Swiss and Gruyere cheese is perfect for dipping crusty French bread and crisp vegetables. The nutty, fruity flavors of the cheese, elevated by the hint of garlic and a kiss of Kirsch, will transport you to a cozy chalet in the Swiss Alps. Fondue is a social dish, shared at the table in friendly and festive ambiance. Originating from Switzerland in the 18th century, it became a popular way to use aged cheeses and bread to feed families during colder times. Over time, the dish has evolved into a social centerpiece for gatherings and parties.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

Assorted vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, cherry tomatoes)
2 cups, cut into bite-sized pieces
French bread
1 loaf, cut into 1-inch cubes
Salt and pepper
to taste
Nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon
Kirsch (cherry brandy)
2 tablespoons
Cornstarch
2 tablespoons
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon
Dry white wine
1 cup
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Gruyere cheese
200 grams, grated
Swiss cheese
200 grams, grated

Instructions

  1. Combine the Swiss cheese and Gruyere cheese in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. Rub the inside of the fondue pot with the minced garlic for flavor infusion.
  3. Pour the white wine and lemon juice into the fondue pot and set it over medium heat. Heat the mixture until hot, but not boiling.
  4. In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch with the Kirsch to create a slurry.
  5. Gradually add the cheese mixture to the hot wine, continually stirring until the cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth. This gradual process ensures a smooth, creamy fondue.
  6. Stir in the cornstarch-Kirsch slurry into the cheese mixture. Continue to cook, stirring gently, until the fondue thickens.
  7. Season the fondue with nutmeg, salt, and pepper according to your taste preference.
  8. Transfer the fondue pot to a fondue burner and adjust the heat to keep the fondue warm and smooth.
  9. Serve the fondue with cubed French bread and assorted vegetables for dipping. Enjoy the Swiss tradition of dipping and swirling your bread and vegetables in the creamy fondue.
