1/2 teaspoon
Salt

Garlic powder

Paprika

1 cup
All-purpose flour
1/2 cup
Fish fillets
1 pound (such as cod, tilapia, or catfish)
Tartar sauce
for serving
Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. In another shallow dish, whisk the egg and milk together until smooth.
  3. Take each fish fillet and first dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
  4. Next, coat the fillet in the flour-cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the batter adheres well.
  5. In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  6. Carefully place the coated fish fillets into the hot oil, cooking for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Once cooked, use a slotted spatula to remove the fish from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
