Fried Sweet Plantains (Maduros)
Maduros are a beloved Cuban dish made from ripe plantains, fried to perfection for a sweet and caramelized flavor. This simple yet delectable side dish pairs beautifully with a variety of meals, adding a touch of sweetness to your table.
Ingredients
- Ripe plantains
- 2, yellow with black spots
- Vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup (for frying)
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon (optional, for seasoning)
Instructions
- Peel the ripe plantains by cutting off the ends and making a lengthwise slit in the skin. Carefully remove the peel.
- Slice the plantains diagonally into about 1-inch thick pieces.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until hot.
- Add the sliced plantains to the skillet in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and caramelized.
- Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
- Sprinkle with salt if desired, and serve warm as a delightful side dish.
