Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, finely chopped onion, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated, making sure not to overmix as this could make the meatballs tough.
- Using your hands, shape the mixture into small meatballs, each about 1-2 inches in diameter.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once the butter is bubbling, add the meatballs. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are beautifully browned and cooked through.
- While the meatballs are cooking, place the peeled and halved potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain thoroughly.
- Serve the frikadeller hot, accompanied by the boiled potatoes and a generous helping of your favorite gravy. Enjoy this delicious taste of Denmark!
Tips
- For an authentic Danish experience, accompany your Frikadeller with pickled red cabbage or cucumber salad.
- You can also bake the meatballs in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 20-25 minutes or until fully cooked.
