Experience the delicate balance of fresh green tea and hearty roasted brown rice in Genmaicha, a beloved staple in Japanese households. The combination creates a comforting, nutty flavor that's both refreshing and satisfying. Known as 'the people's tea,' Genmaicha was historically consumed by those who couldn't afford pure tea, but its unique charm has made it a widespread favorite.

Servings: 2

Ingredients

Water
2 cups (16 ounces)
Genmaicha tea leaves
1-2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and allow the water to cool to 80-90°C or 176-194°F. This temperature is crucial for bringing out the best flavors in the tea without making it bitter.
  2. While the water is cooling, add 1-2 tablespoons of Genmaicha tea leaves to your teapot. The amount of tea leaves depends on your preference for the strength of the tea.
  3. Pour the hot water over the tea leaves in the teapot.
  4. Let the tea steep for about 1-3 minutes. A longer steeping time will result in a stronger flavor, while a shorter time will produce a milder tea.
  5. Pour the tea into cups, ensuring to distribute the tea leaves and rice evenly among the cups. This ensures that each cup of tea has a balanced flavor.
