Gnocchi Alla Siciliana

This is a traditional Italian dish, featuring gnocchi in a rich tomato and cheese sauce, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Basil (a handful, chopped)
  • Parmesan cheese (1/2 cup, grated)
  • Mozzarella cheese (1 cup, shredded)
  • Tomato sauce (2 cups)
  • Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
  • Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Gnocchi (500 grams)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Cook the gnocchi according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. Add the tomato sauce, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and stir to coat in the sauce.
  6. Transfer the gnocchi and sauce to a baking dish. Top with the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish with the chopped basil before serving.
