Ingredients

Original recipe serves 16

Salt
1 teaspoon or to taste
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon or to taste
Cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon
Mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon
Brown sugar
1/3 cup
Apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup
Tomatoes
2 lbs, ripe and roughly chopped
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Onion
1 large, finely chopped
Olive oil
2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the roughly chopped tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer. Cover the pot and allow it to cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. After 30 minutes, remove the pot from heat. Allow the mixture to cool for approximately 10 minutes.
  6. Transfer the cooled mixture to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  7. Pour the smooth ketchup into a clean jar or container. Store in the refrigerator.
