Servings: 4

Ingredients

Boneless lamb or chicken
1 pound, thinly sliced
Greek yogurt
1 cup
Lemon juice
2 tablespoons
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Olive oil
2 tablespoons
Dried oregano
1 tablespoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Lettuce
2 cups, chopped
Cucumber
1, sliced
Red onion
1/2, thinly sliced
Tomatoes
2, diced
Tzatziki sauce
1 cup
Pita bread
4, warmed

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, olive oil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create the marinade.
  2. Add the sliced lamb or chicken to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Cover and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for more intense flavor.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, cook the marinated meat for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until fully cooked through and slightly charred on the edges.
  4. Remove the meat from the grill and allow it to rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.
  5. While the meat is resting, warm the pita bread on the grill or in a toaster until soft and pliable.
  6. To assemble your gyro plate, spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each piece of warm pita bread.
  7. Top with the sliced meat, followed by diced tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, cucumber slices, and a handful of chopped lettuce.
  8. Serve the Greek gyro plate with extra tzatziki sauce on the side for dipping.
  9. Enjoy this delicious, homemade Greek dish!
