
Green Bean and Cheddar Casserole
This delicious green bean and cheddar casserole is a perfect side dish for any occasion.
Ingredients
- Breadcrumbs (1/2 cup)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Cheddar cheese (1 cup, shredded)
- Milk (1 cup)
- All (purpose flour - 2 tablespoons)
- Onion (1 medium, diced)
- Butter (2 tablespoons)
- Green beans (1 pound, trimmed and halved)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 5 minutes, or until crisp-tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the cooked green beans to the cheese sauce and toss to coat evenly.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly, and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
