Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with this gourmet version of a classic grilled cheese and bacon sandwich. Savory, crispy bacon and gooey, melted cheddar cheese are sandwiched between two perfectly toasted slices of bread. This sandwich strikes a delightful balance between crispness and creaminess, making it a timeless favorite that has been enjoyed across generations.

Servings: 2

Ingredients

Butter
4 tablespoons, softened
Cheddar cheese
8 slices, or about 200 grams
Bread
4 slices, preferably sourdough or whole grain
Bacon
6 slices

Instructions

  1. Place a skillet over medium heat, add the bacon slices and cook until they're crispy and golden brown. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Once done, remove the bacon slices from the skillet and let them drain on paper towels.
  2. Spread a generous layer of softened butter on one side of each bread slice. This will help the bread achieve a golden, crispy exterior when grilled.
  3. On the unbuttered side of two bread slices, place two slices of cheddar cheese each. Then, layer three slices of cooked bacon over the cheese.
  4. Top the bacon layer with the remaining bread slices, making sure the buttered side is facing out. Press down gently to make the sandwich stay together.
  5. Reheat the skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the sandwiches. Cook on each side for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bread is toasted to a golden brown and the cheese has melted. Remember to flip the sandwiches carefully to avoid spillage of the melting cheese.
  6. Take the sandwiches off the skillet and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. This will make them easier to handle and it will let the cheese set a bit.
  7. Cut the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve while still warm. Enjoy the perfect blend of crispy, creamy, and cheesy!
