Ingredients

Butter
4 tablespoons, softened
Ham slices
4 slices
Cheddar cheese
4 slices
Bread slices
4 slices (your choice of sourdough, whole grain, or white)
Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
  3. If using, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of two of the bread slices for an extra flavor kick.
  4. Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet.
  5. Layer each slice with one slice of cheddar cheese and two slices of ham.
  6. Top with the remaining bread slices, ensuring the buttered sides are facing up.
  7. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the bottom bread is golden brown and crisp.
  8. Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  9. Remove from the skillet and let cool for a minute before slicing.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy the gooey goodness!

Tips

  • 💡 For a gourmet touch, consider adding sautéed onions or tomatoes inside the sandwich.
  • 💡 Experiment with different cheeses like Swiss or Gruyere for a unique flavor.
  • 💡 For a spicy kick, add sliced jalapeños or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
