Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Black Pepper (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Salt (1 teaspoon)
  • Cheese curds (2 cups)
  • Gravy (2 cups)
  • Vegetable oil (2 cups)
  • Russet Potatoes (4 large, cut into fries)
  • Unsalted Butter (4 tablespoons)
  • Sharp Cheddar cheese (8 slices)
  • Sourdough Bread (8 slices)

Instructions

  1. Warm a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Simultaneously, heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot for the fries.
  2. Butter one side of each sourdough bread slice.
  3. Place four slices of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet.
  4. Top each slice with two slices of sharp cheddar cheese.
  5. Cover with the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing up.
  6. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side, until the bread is golden and the cheese is perfectly melted.
  7. While the sandwiches are cooking, add the cut potatoes to the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  8. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Season the fries immediately with salt and pepper.
  10. Next, heat the gravy in a separate saucepan until it's steaming hot.
  11. To serve, place the gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches on plates with a generous side of crispy poutine fries.
  12. Pour the hot gravy over the fries and top with a hearty sprinkle of cheese curds.
  13. Enjoy this scrumptious combination of grilled cheese and poutine, and take a culinary trip to Canada!
