Servings: 8
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 2 cups
- Active dry yeast
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- Warm water
- 3/4 cup
- Olive oil
- 2 tablespoons, plus more for greasing
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon
- Sugar
- 1 teaspoon
- Sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup (optional, for topping)
- Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/4 cup (optional, for flavor enhancement)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil.
- Stir until a dough begins to form, then turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small pieces, rolling each piece into a thin stick, approximately 10-12 inches long.
- If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds or grated Parmesan cheese over the sticks for added flavor before placing them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the grissini for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and crisp.
- Let cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
