Crispy Halibut BLT Sandwich
Indulge in a delightful twist on a classic favorite with this Crispy Halibut BLT Sandwich. Featuring perfectly seared halibut fillets that are golden brown and flaky, crisp bacon, fresh lettuce, and juicy tomato, all slathered with a zesty homemade aioli, this sandwich is a flavor explosion in every bite. The combination of textures and flavors makes it a perfect summer meal, ideal for a picnic or a casual lunch. This dish also pays homage to the traditional BLT, adding a touch of the ocean with the halibut, a fish prized for its mild flavor and firm texture.
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- Halibut fillets (2 (6-ounce) fillets)
- Bacon (4 slices)
- Lettuce (2 leaves, preferably romaine or butter lettuce)
- Tomato (1 medium, sliced)
- Bread (4 slices (your choice: sourdough, whole grain, or white))
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- Garlic powder (1 teaspoon)
- Lemon juice (1 tablespoon)
- Mayonnaise (1/4 cup)
- Olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Season the halibut fillets generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, add a drizzle of olive oil. Once hot, carefully place the halibut fillets in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until they are golden brown and cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
- While the halibut is cooking, in a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to create the aioli sauce. Mix until smooth and set aside.
- In another skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Once cooked, place the bacon on a paper towel to drain excess fat.
- Toast the bread slices in the oven until lightly golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Spread a generous layer of the aioli sauce on one side of each toasted bread slice.
- On two slices of bread, layer the lettuce, tomato slices, the cooked halibut fillets, and crispy bacon.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, aioli side down, to complete the sandwiches.
- Slice the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve immediately.
