Savory Ham and Pear Sandwich

Indulge in the delightful harmony of flavors with this Savory Ham and Pear Sandwich. The combination of tender, savory ham and sweet, juicy pears creates a mouthwatering contrast, while creamy Swiss cheese and peppery arugula add layers of richness and freshness. Perfect for a quick lunch or a light dinner, this sandwich is a celebration of both taste and texture, inspired by traditional European charcuterie. Enjoy this delicious creation any time of year, but especially during the fall when pears are at their peak!

Ingredients

Whole grain bread
4 slices
Sliced ham
8 ounces
Ripe pears
1, thinly sliced
Swiss cheese
4 slices
Arugula
1 cup
Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons
Honey
1 tablespoon
Salt
to taste
Pepper
to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by spreading 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard on one side of each slice of whole grain bread.
  2. On two slices of bread (mustard side up), layer the sliced ham evenly.
  3. Next, add the thinly sliced ripe pear over the ham, followed by a generous handful of arugula.
  4. Top the arugula with Swiss cheese slices, then drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over the cheese.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste for an extra flavor boost.
  6. Place the remaining slices of bread on top, mustard side down, to form sandwiches.
  7. Gently press the sandwiches together to help meld the ingredients.
  8. If desired, grill the sandwiches in a skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  9. Cut the sandwiches in half and serve with a side of fresh fruit or a light salad.

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a few slices of ripe brie cheese along with the Swiss cheese.
  • 💡 Experiment with different types of mustard, such as whole grain or spicy brown, to suit your taste.
  • 💡 For a vegetarian version, substitute the ham with roasted vegetables or grilled portobello mushrooms.
