Harvey Wallbanger Cocktail

The Harvey Wallbanger is a vintage cocktail that rose to popularity in the 1970s. This delightful concoction is a vibrant blend of premium vodka, bright and sweet orange juice, and the unique herbal-bittersweet Galliano liqueur. The result is a refreshing, multi-layered beverage perfect for social gatherings or simply unwinding after a long day. The name 'Harvey Wallbanger' is said to originate from a surfer named Harvey, who after losing a surfing contest, consoled himself with multiple of these cocktails and subsequently started banging on walls!

Serves 1

Ingredients

Maraschino cherry
1 (for garnish)
Orange slice
1 (for garnish)
Galliano liqueur
1/2 ounce
Orange juice
3 ounces, freshly squeezed preferred
Vodka
1 1/2 ounces, premium quality preferred
Ice cubes
as needed

Instructions

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
  2. Pour the premium vodka over the ice.
  3. Add the freshly squeezed orange juice.
  4. Carefully float the Galliano liqueur on top for a layered look. This can be done by pouring the liqueur over the back of a spoon to distribute the flow.
  5. Give the cocktail a gentle stir to lightly blend the flavors while maintaining the layered effect.
  6. Garnish with a fresh orange slice and a maraschino cherry on a cocktail skewer for a pop of color and additional flavor.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing, balanced flavors of your Harvey Wallbanger!

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra touch of sophistication, chill your glass before preparing the drink. Use freshly squeezed orange juice when possible for the best flavor. If Galliano liqueur is not available, you can substitute with another vanilla-anise liqueur, but remember it's the Galliano that gives the Harvey Wallbanger its distinctive taste.
