Havarti Cheese and Ham Tart
Indulge in the velvety richness of Havarti cheese, perfectly paired with the salty savoryness of ham, all encased in a buttery, flaky puff pastry. This Havarti Cheese and Ham Tart is a dish steeped in the traditions of Danish cuisine, where Havarti, a semi-soft cow's milk cheese, originates. Each bite is not just a taste, but a journey to the coziness of Danish 'hygge'.
Servings: 6
Ingredients
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
- Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
- Fresh thyme
- 1 tablespoon, chopped
- Egg
- 1, beaten
- Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons
- Ham
- 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
- Havarti cheese
- 1 cup, thinly sliced
- Frozen puff pastry
- 1 sheet, thawed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a tart pan.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet so that it is large enough to fit your tart pan.
- Gently press the pastry into the bottom and up the sides of the tart pan, trimming any excess pastry hanging over the edges.
- Evenly spread the Dijon mustard over the pastry base.
- Arrange the thinly sliced Havarti cheese and ham on top of the mustard layer.
- Season the tart with salt, pepper, and chopped fresh thyme.
- Brush the beaten egg over the visible edges of the pastry. This will give it a beautiful golden color once baked.
- Bake the tart for 25-30 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the tart from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This will ensure the tart holds its shape when cut.
