Servings: 4
Ingredients
- Potatoes
- 4 medium, peeled and grated
- Unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons, melted
- Salt
- to taste
- Black pepper
- to taste
- Optional: onion
- 1/2 medium, finely chopped
- Optional: garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon
Instructions
- Start by grating the potatoes using a box grater or food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and twist to squeeze out as much moisture as possible. This step is crucial for achieving crispy hash browns.
- In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. If you’re using onion, add it to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the grated potatoes to the skillet in an even layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Season generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using.
- Cook the potatoes for 10-12 minutes without stirring, allowing the bottom to develop a golden-brown crust.
- Using a large spatula, carefully flip the hash browns over. Add more butter if necessary to keep them from sticking. Cook for an additional 8-10 minutes until the other side is equally golden and crispy.
- Remove from heat, taste, and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
