Serves 8

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
2 cups
Baking powder
1 teaspoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Warm water
3/4 cup

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the vegetable oil and warm water.
  3. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon or your hands until a dough begins to form.
  4. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal-sized balls and cover them with a clean kitchen towel to prevent drying out. Let them rest for at least 15 minutes.
  6. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until hot.
  7. On a floured surface, take one dough ball and roll it out into a thin, round tortilla, approximately 8 inches in diameter. Repeat for the remaining dough balls.
  8. Carefully place each rolled tortilla onto the hot skillet and cook for about 30 seconds on each side, or until lightly browned and puffed.
  9. Transfer the cooked tortillas to a plate and cover them with a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm and soft.
  10. Serve the homemade flour tortillas warm, filled with your choice of ingredients, and enjoy!

Tips

  • 💡 For a richer flavor, you can substitute half of the vegetable oil with melted butter or lard.
  • 💡 Try adding spices such as cumin or garlic powder to the dough for a unique twist.
  • 💡 If you prefer thicker tortillas, simply roll them out to a slightly thicker diameter.
