Homemade Spicy Hot Wings

Experience an explosion of flavors with these homemade spicy hot wings! Crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside, these wings are coated with a fiery and tangy sauce that will make your tastebuds dance. Perfect for game day, parties, or those days when you're craving something spicy and utterly delicious. This recipe, believed to have originated from Buffalo, New York in the 1960s, has since become a worldwide favorite.

Serves 4

Ingredients

Unsalted butter
1/2 cup
Hot sauce
1 cup
Garlic powder
1 teaspoon
Cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
Chicken wings
2 lbs, rinsed and patted dry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a large bowl, season the chicken wings with salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Toss until the wings are evenly coated.
  3. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until they are nicely browned and crispy.
  4. While the wings are baking, prepare the hot sauce mixture. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the hot sauce and mix well until fully combined.
  5. Remove the wings from the oven and carefully toss them in the hot sauce mixture until each wing is fully coated.
  6. Return the coated wings to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the sauce becomes sticky and the wings are extra crispy.
  7. Serve hot, and for an authentic experience, pair with blue cheese or ranch dressing and celery sticks on the side. Enjoy!

Tips

  • 💡 For extra crispy wings, you can dust the wings with a little bit of cornstarch before baking.
  • 💡 Feel free to adjust the amount of cayenne pepper based on your spice tolerance.
