Instructions
- Pour water into a cezve and place it over medium heat.
- Add the Turkish coffee and sugar to the cezve, stirring until they dissolve.
- Add the ground cardamom to the cezve, stirring it into the mixture.
- Allow the coffee to slowly come to a boil. A rich, dark foam will form on the top.
- Once the foam forms, remove the cezve from the heat and let it sit for a few seconds. This allows the foam to settle.
- Return the cezve to the heat and allow it to come to a boil again. Repeat this process 2-3 times for optimal flavor extraction.
- Pour the hot coffee into small cups, distributing the foam evenly among them.
- Let the coffee settle for a minute before serving to allow the grounds to sink to the bottom of the cup.
- Serve the Israeli Turkish coffee hot. Enjoy this traditional, aromatic beverage sip by sip.
Tips
- The amount of sugar can be adjusted according to personal preference. Some prefer it bitter (unsweetened), while others like it semi-sweet or very sweet.
- Traditional Turkish coffee cups (fincan) are used to serve the coffee. They are smaller than regular coffee cups, enhancing the rich flavor and aroma.
- Don't drink the very last sip of your coffee. The thick layer at the bottom of the cup is the coffee grounds.
