Italian Sausage Burger

Indulge in the robust flavors of Italy with this Italian Sausage Burger, a delightful fusion of classic American grilling with Italian culinary traditions. Each juicy patty is crafted from seasoned Italian sausage, infused with garlic and aromatic herbs, then topped with a luscious marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. Ideal for summer barbecues or a cozy dinner, this burger promises to transport your taste buds to the heart of Italy with every bite. Pair it with a side of garlic bread or a fresh Caprese salad for a complete meal.

Ingredients

Italian sausage
1 pound, removed from casings
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon
Olive oil
2 tablespoons, for brushing
Burger buns
4, toasted
Marinara sauce
1 cup
Mozzarella cheese
1 cup, shredded

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the Italian sausage, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat. Once hot, brush the patties lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Grill the patties for about 5 minutes on one side. Flip them and grill for an additional 5 minutes, or until they are fully cooked and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
  5. During the last minute of grilling, spoon marinara sauce over each patty and top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover the grill or pan to help the cheese melt.
  6. Remove the patties from the grill and place them on the toasted burger buns. Serve with additional marinara sauce on the side.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicy kick, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture.
  • 💡 Experiment with different cheeses like provolone or fontina for a unique flavor profile.
  • 💡 Serve with arugula or fresh basil leaves for an added layer of taste.
