Ingredients
- Italian sausage
- 1 pound, removed from casings
- Garlic
- 2 cloves, minced
- Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil
- 2 tablespoons, for brushing
- Burger buns
- 4, toasted
- Marinara sauce
- 1 cup
- Mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup, shredded
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the Italian sausage, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 3/4 inch thick.
- Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat. Once hot, brush the patties lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Grill the patties for about 5 minutes on one side. Flip them and grill for an additional 5 minutes, or until they are fully cooked and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
- During the last minute of grilling, spoon marinara sauce over each patty and top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover the grill or pan to help the cheese melt.
- Remove the patties from the grill and place them on the toasted burger buns. Serve with additional marinara sauce on the side.
Tips
- For a spicy kick, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture.
- Experiment with different cheeses like provolone or fontina for a unique flavor profile.
- Serve with arugula or fresh basil leaves for an added layer of taste.
