Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Italian sausages (4)
  • Hoagie rolls (4)
  • Provolone cheese (4 slices)
  • Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Onion (1 large, sliced)
  • Bell peppers (2 (preferably one red and one green), sliced)
  • Italian seasoning (1 teaspoon)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, ensuring it's hot enough for a good sear.
  2. Grill the Italian sausages for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are nicely browned and cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F/70°C).
  3. While the sausages are grilling, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are softened and slightly caramelized.
  5. Season the sautéed vegetables with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine.
  6. Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through, creating a pocket for the filling.
  7. Place a slice of provolone cheese inside each hoagie roll.
  8. Once the sausages are grilled to perfection, place one sausage on top of the cheese in each roll.
  9. Generously divide the sautéed peppers and onions over the sausages in each sandwich.
  10. Serve the Italian sausage sandwiches warm and enjoy with a side of marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.
