Authentic Japanese Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients
- Water
- 1/4 cup
- Cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons
- Ginger
- 1 tablespoon, freshly grated
- Garlic
- 2 cloves, minced
- Brown sugar
- 1/4 cup
- Sake
- 1/4 cup
- Mirin
- 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce
- 1/2 cup
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, minced garlic, and freshly grated ginger.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until a smooth consistency is achieved. This will serve as your thickening agent.
- Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan while stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Continue to cook the sauce over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency.
