Jeera Rice with Basmati Rice

Jeera rice is a simple and flavorful Indian rice dish made with basmati rice and cumin seeds.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cilantro (2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish))
  • Salt (1 teaspoon)
  • Water (2 cups)
  • Ghee or butter (2 tablespoons)
  • Cumin seeds (1 tablespoon)
  • Basmati rice (1 cup)

Instructions

  1. Wash the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the ghee or butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they start to sizzle and become fragrant.
  4. Add the washed basmati rice to the saucepan and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add water and salt to the saucepan and bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the rice simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
