Ingredients

Water
2 cups
Rolled oats
1 cup
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Milk
1 cup
Honey or maple syrup
2 tablespoons, or to taste
Berries or sliced fruits
1 cup
Chopped nuts or seeds
1/4 cup
Cinnamon or cardamom
1/2 teaspoon, or to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Add 1 cup of rolled oats and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to low.
  3. Simmer the oats for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they have absorbed most of the water and reached a creamy consistency.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in 1 cup of milk. Sweeten your porridge with 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup, or adjust to your taste.
  5. Divide the Kaurapuuro into serving bowls. Top each bowl with your choice of berries or sliced fruits, chopped nuts or seeds, and a sprinkle of cinnamon or cardamom.
  6. Serve your Kaurapuuro hot, and enjoy a taste of Finland!
