Indulge in the traditional flavors of Singapore with this Kaya Toast recipe. The crisp golden toast, spread with rich, creamy butter and sweet, fragrant Kaya (coconut jam) creates a delightful contrast of textures and flavors. This breakfast staple is a beloved start to the day in Singapore, the perfect blend of sweet and savory to kickstart your morning. Kaya, a luscious spread made from coconut milk, sugar, and eggs, truly elevates this simple toast into a culinary experience.

Servings: 2

Ingredients

Unsalted butter
4 tablespoons, at room temperature
Kaya (coconut jam)
4 tablespoons
Bread
4 slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat your toaster or oven to a medium setting.
  2. Place the bread slices in the toaster or on a baking sheet if using an oven. Toast until they reach a golden-brown color.
  3. Let the toast cool slightly, then spread 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter on one side of each toast slice. The residual heat will help melt the butter into the bread.
  4. Spread 1 tablespoon of kaya on the other side of each toast slice.
  5. Assemble your kaya toast by placing one slice of bread, butter side down, on a plate. Top it with another slice of bread, kaya side down.
  6. Slice each kaya toast diagonally into two triangles for a traditional presentation.
  7. Serve immediately while the toast is still warm. Enjoy this unique taste of Singapore!
