Kefta

Kefta is a savory and aromatic Middle Eastern delight that features a mouthwatering blend of ground meat, fragrant herbs, and a symphony of spices. This traditional dish, cherished across the streets of Lebanon and Morocco, is often grilled to perfection, creating a delicious char that enhances its rich flavors. Served with warm pita bread and a refreshing drizzle of tzatziki or tahini sauce, Kefta offers a captivating taste experience that transports you to bustling marketplaces filled with the scent of spices and grilled meats. Perfect for gatherings or a cozy dinner, these flavorful patties are sure to impress your family and friends.

Ingredients

Ground beef
1 pound
Onion
1 medium, finely chopped
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Fresh parsley
1/4 cup, chopped
Fresh cilantro
1/4 cup, chopped
Cumin
1 teaspoon
Paprika
1 teaspoon
Cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
Olive oil
2 tablespoons (for grilling)
Tzatziki sauce
1 cup
Pita bread
4 pieces

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped cilantro, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt. Use your hands to mix everything together until well combined.
  2. Shape the meat mixture into small oval-shaped patties, approximately 2 inches long and 1 inch thick.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush the grill surface with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Carefully place the kefta patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F).
  5. Remove the patties from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
  6. Serve the kefta warm with pita bread, alongside tzatziki sauce for dipping, and your choice of toppings such as sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, and pickled onions.

Tips

  • 💡 For added moisture and flavor, consider mixing in a tablespoon of yogurt into the meat mixture.
  • 💡 If you prefer a spicier kick, increase the cayenne pepper or add chopped green chilies.
  • 💡 Kefta can also be baked in the oven at 400°F for about 20-25 minutes if grilling is not an option.
