Ingredients

Original recipe serves 6

Rice
4 cups, cooked
Kimchi
2 cups, store-bought or homemade
Lettuce leaves
1 head, preferably butter or romaine
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons (for grilling)
Sesame seeds
2 tablespoons, toasted
Green onions
4, chopped
Pear
1, ripe, pureed (asian pear preferred)
Brown sugar
2 tablespoons
Ginger
1 tablespoon, grated
Garlic
4 cloves, minced
Sesame oil
2 tablespoons
Soy sauce
1/2 cup
Chicken
1 pound, thinly sliced
Pork
1 pound, thinly sliced
Beef
1 pound, thinly sliced (ribeye or sirloin recommended)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, brown sugar, pureed pear, chopped green onions, and toasted sesame seeds to create a flavorful marinade.
  2. Divide the marinade into three equal parts.
  3. In separate bowls, place the thinly sliced beef, pork, and chicken. Pour one part of the marinade over each bowl of meat, tossing thoroughly to ensure even coating. Allow the meats to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or for enhanced flavor, overnight in the refrigerator.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. To prevent sticking, brush the grill with vegetable oil.
  5. Grill the marinated meats for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Ensure each meat type is cooked thoroughly.
  6. Once grilled, remove the meats from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
  7. To serve, place the grilled meats on a platter alongside fresh lettuce leaves, kimchi, and cooked rice. For the perfect bite, wrap the grilled meat in a lettuce leaf, add a spoonful of kimchi, and enjoy the delightful flavors!

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra kick, add a spoonful of gochujang (Korean chili paste) to the marinade.
  • 💡 Feel free to include other vegetables like mushrooms, zucchini, or bell peppers on the grill for a colorful addition to your meal.
  • 💡 If you prefer a smokier flavor, try using a charcoal grill instead of a gas grill.
