Experience a delicious fusion of flavors with the Korean BBQ Banh Mi, a sandwich that marries the savory, umami-rich goodness of Korean BBQ with the vibrant, fresh elements of traditional Vietnamese banh mi. This delightful creation features succulent marinated beef, crisp vegetables, and a hint of heat from sriracha, all beautifully nestled in a crusty baguette. Perfect for lunch or a quick dinner, this dish showcases the culinary harmony between two cultures, reflecting a modern twist on classic street food.
Ingredients
- Soy sauce
- 1/4 cup
- Sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon
- Garlic
- 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger
- 1 tablespoon, grated
- Brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons
- Beef sirloin
- 1 pound, thinly sliced
- Baguette
- 1, split
- Mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons
- Sriracha sauce
- to taste
- Pickled daikon and carrots
- 1 cup, prepared (store-bought or homemade)
- Cilantro
- 1/4 cup, chopped
- Cucumber
- 1, thinly sliced
- Carrots
- 1, julienned
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, brown sugar, and rice vinegar. Whisk until the brown sugar is dissolved.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes at room temperature, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for deeper flavor.
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated beef slices for 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix the julienned carrots, thinly sliced cucumber, and chopped cilantro. Toss gently to combine.
- Spread the mayonnaise evenly on the inner sides of the split baguette.
- Layer the cooked beef slices on the bottom half of the baguette, followed by the pickled daikon and carrots mixture.
- Top with the cucumber and cilantro mixture, and drizzle with sriracha sauce to taste.
- Close the sandwich and press down gently. Slice in half and serve immediately.
Tips
- For added flavor, consider grilling the baguette lightly before adding the fillings.
- Feel free to customize your banh mi by adding jalapeños for extra heat or avocado for creaminess.
- If you want to make your own pickled daikon and carrots, simply combine equal parts water and vinegar with sugar and salt, then soak the vegetables for at least an hour.
