Ingredients

Original recipe serves 4

Ground chicken or pork
1 pound
Lettuce leaves
1 head (butter or iceberg)
Thai chili peppers
2-3, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
Mint leaves
1/2 cup, roughly chopped
Cilantro
1/2 cup, roughly chopped
Green onions
1/4 cup, sliced
Red onion
1/2, finely chopped
Roasted rice powder
2 tablespoons
Fish sauce
3 tablespoons
Lime juice
3 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the ground meat over medium heat. Use a spatula to break the meat apart as it cooks. Cook until fully browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. While the meat is cooking, prepare the dressing. In a small bowl, whisk together the lime juice, fish sauce, and roasted rice powder until well combined. This mixture will add depth and flavor to your Laab.
  3. Once the meat is fully cooked, remove the skillet from heat and let it cool for a few minutes to avoid wilting the herbs.
  4. Pour the lime juice mixture over the meat and stir well to ensure the meat is evenly coated with the flavorful dressing.
  5. Add the red onion, green onions, cilantro, mint leaves, and Thai chili peppers to the meat mixture. Toss gently to incorporate all ingredients, allowing the herbs to release their fragrant oils.
  6. Transfer the Laab mixture to a serving platter, garnished with additional herbs if desired.
  7. To enjoy, take a lettuce leaf, spoon some of the Laab mixture onto it, wrap the leaf around the filling, and savor the explosion of flavors.

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with crumbled tofu or tempeh and use soy sauce instead of fish sauce.
  • 💡 Feel free to adjust the number of Thai chili peppers to suit your spice preference.
  • 💡 You can also add other fresh herbs like basil or Thai basil for additional flavor.
