Larb

Larb, often called the national dish of Laos, is a zesty and aromatic salad that tantalizes your taste buds with a harmony of flavors. This vibrant dish features ground meat, fresh herbs, and a spicy kick from Thai chilies, all brought together with a tangy lime dressing. Traditionally served in lettuce wraps, Larb is not only refreshing but also a celebration of the bold culinary traditions of Southeast Asia. Perfect for a light lunch or as a flavorful appetizer at your next gathering!

Serves 4

Ingredients

Ground chicken or pork
1 pound
Lettuce leaves
1 head, for serving
Roasted rice powder
2 tablespoons
Thai chili peppers
2-3, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
Green onions
3, thinly sliced
Fresh cilantro leaves
1/2 cup, chopped
Fresh mint leaves
1/2 cup, chopped
Red onion
1/2, finely chopped
Fish sauce
3 tablespoons
Lime juice
3 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground meat until fully cooked and browned, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  2. While the meat is cooking, prepare the dressing by mixing together lime juice and fish sauce in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. Once the meat is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl. Add the chopped red onion, mint leaves, cilantro leaves, green onions, Thai chili peppers, and roasted rice powder to the bowl.
  4. Pour the lime juice and fish sauce mixture over the meat and herb mixture. Toss everything together until well combined and the ingredients are evenly coated.
  5. To serve, spoon the larb mixture onto individual lettuce leaves, creating wraps. Enjoy the freshness and flavor in every bite!

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegetarian option, substitute ground meat with tempeh or mushrooms.
  • 💡 Feel free to adjust the number of Thai chili peppers based on your spice preference.
  • 💡 Serve with sticky rice for a more traditional experience.
