Ingredients

Original recipe serves 20 (1.5 oz per serving)

Lemons
10 large, preferably organic
Vodka
750 ml (preferably high-quality)
Granulated sugar
2 cups
Water
2 cups

Instructions

  1. Wash the lemons thoroughly to remove any wax or pesticides. Using a vegetable peeler, carefully remove the peel from the lemons in long strips, avoiding the bitter white pith.
  2. Place the lemon peels in a large glass jar and pour the vodka over them. Seal the jar tightly and store it at room temperature in a cool, dark place for a minimum of 10 days, or up to 40 days for a more intense flavor.
  3. After the infusion period, combine the sugar and water in a large saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture thickens slightly, about 5 to 7 minutes. Allow the syrup to cool completely.
  4. Once the syrup has cooled, add it to the lemon and vodka mixture. Stir well, cover the jar again, and let it sit at room temperature overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Strain the Limoncello through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the lemon peels, ensuring a clear and smooth liqueur.
  6. Pour the strained Limoncello into clean bottles and seal tightly. For the best experience, store your Limoncello in the freezer until ready to serve, as it is traditionally enjoyed ice-cold.

Tips

  • 💡 For a twist, consider adding fresh herbs like basil or mint to the infusion for a unique flavor profile.
  • 💡 Use organic lemons for the best flavor and to avoid pesticides.
  • 💡 Serve Limoncello in chilled shot glasses or over ice with a splash of sparkling water for a refreshing spritz.
