Instructions
- Combine the lingonberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice in a large saucepan.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent the sugar from sticking to the bottom.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer. Continue to stir every few minutes.
- Allow the mixture to cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the lingonberries have softened and the jam has thickened to your liking.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the jam cool for about 10 minutes.
- Carefully transfer the cooled Lingonsylt into sterilized jars, leaving some headspace for expansion.
- Let the jam cool completely before sealing the jars. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Enjoy your homemade Lingonsylt as a spread on toast, a topping on pancakes, or a classic accompaniment to Swedish meatballs.
Tips
- If you can't find fresh lingonberries, frozen ones work just as well.
- For a less sweet jam, reduce the sugar by 1/2 cup.
- You can sterilize jars by washing them in hot soapy water, rinsing well, and then boiling for 10 minutes.
