Ingredients

Original recipe serves 16

Lingonberries
4 cups, fresh or frozen
Granulated sugar
2 cups
Water
1 cup
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon, freshly squeezed

Instructions

  1. Combine the lingonberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice in a large saucepan.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent the sugar from sticking to the bottom.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer. Continue to stir every few minutes.
  4. Allow the mixture to cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the lingonberries have softened and the jam has thickened to your liking.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the jam cool for about 10 minutes.
  6. Carefully transfer the cooled Lingonsylt into sterilized jars, leaving some headspace for expansion.
  7. Let the jam cool completely before sealing the jars. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  8. Enjoy your homemade Lingonsylt as a spread on toast, a topping on pancakes, or a classic accompaniment to Swedish meatballs.

Tips

  • 💡 If you can't find fresh lingonberries, frozen ones work just as well.
  • 💡 For a less sweet jam, reduce the sugar by 1/2 cup.
  • 💡 You can sterilize jars by washing them in hot soapy water, rinsing well, and then boiling for 10 minutes.
