Exotic Mango Tart
Experience the tropical delight of an Exotic Mango Tart. This recipe brings together the buttery sweetness of a perfectly baked crust with the luscious creaminess of a fresh mango filling. Topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a hint of mint, this dessert is the perfect finish to any meal or a refreshing treat on a warm day. Originating from the French 'Tarte aux mangues', this dish has been adopted globally and is especially popular in mango-growing regions such as Thailand and India.
Ingredients
- Fresh mint leaves
- a handful for garnishing
- Whipped cream
- to serve
- Cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon
- Lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon
- Mangoes
- 3, ripe and juicy
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup
- Unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup, cold and cut into small pieces
- All-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the flour, butter, sugar, and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 2-3 tablespoons of cold water and pulse until the dough comes together.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and shape it into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a circle slightly larger than your tart pan. Transfer the dough to the tart pan and press it into the bottom and sides. Trim any excess dough.
- In a blender or food processor, puree 2 mangoes until smooth. Add lemon juice and cornstarch and blend again until well combined.
- Pour the mango mixture into the tart shell and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
- Slice the remaining mango into thin slices and arrange them on top of the tart.
- Serve the mango tart chilled, topped with whipped cream and fresh mint leaves.
Tips
- For a more tropical flavor, you can add a bit of shredded coconut to the crust.
- Make sure to use ripe mangoes for the best flavor.
