Dive into the world of traditional Asian cuisine with this tantalizing marinated jellyfish dish. Known for its unique texture and refreshing taste, this appetizer combines the crunchiness of jellyfish with a savory, tangy marinade. A staple in many Asian cultures, marinated jellyfish has been enjoyed for centuries and is often served at festive occasions, making it a great conversation starter at your next gathering.

Serves 4

Ingredients

Dried jellyfish
1 cup
Rice vinegar
1/4 cup
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
Sugar
1 tablespoon
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Red chili flakes
1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Green onions
2, sliced (for garnish)
Sesame seeds
1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried jellyfish in water for at least 24 hours, ensuring to change the water several times to rehydrate it properly.
  2. After soaking, rinse the jellyfish thoroughly under cold water, then blanch it in boiling water for about 1 minute. Rinse again under cold water and drain well.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, minced garlic, and red chili flakes to create a flavorful marinade.
  4. Add the prepared jellyfish to the marinade, ensuring it's fully coated. Cover and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to absorb all the delicious flavors.
  5. Before serving, transfer the marinated jellyfish to a serving dish and garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added texture and flavor.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, consider adding sliced fresh chilies to the marinade.
  • 💡 You can also mix in some thinly sliced cucumber or radish for added crunch and freshness.
  • 💡 If you prefer a sweeter marinade, adjust the sugar to your taste.
