Servings: 6
Ingredients
- Sweet potatoes
- 2 pounds, peeled and cut into chunks
- Unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons
- Maple syrup
- 3 tablespoons
- Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
- Nutmeg (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Heavy cream or milk (optional)
- 1/4 cup (for extra creaminess)
Instructions
- Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks to ensure uniform cooking.
- Place the sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
- Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer until the sweet potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot. Allow them to sit for a minute to evaporate any excess moisture.
- Add the unsalted butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt to the sweet potatoes.
- Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the sweet potatoes until they are smooth and creamy. If desired, add heavy cream or milk for extra creaminess and blend until well incorporated.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, maple syrup, or cinnamon as preferred.
- Serve the mashed sweet potatoes warm, garnished with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
