Servings: 6

Ingredients

Sweet potatoes
2 pounds, peeled and cut into chunks
Unsalted butter
4 tablespoons
Maple syrup
3 tablespoons
Cinnamon
1 teaspoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
Nutmeg (optional)
1/4 teaspoon
Heavy cream or milk (optional)
1/4 cup (for extra creaminess)

Instructions

  1. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks to ensure uniform cooking.
  2. Place the sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
  3. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer until the sweet potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot. Allow them to sit for a minute to evaporate any excess moisture.
  5. Add the unsalted butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt to the sweet potatoes.
  6. Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the sweet potatoes until they are smooth and creamy. If desired, add heavy cream or milk for extra creaminess and blend until well incorporated.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, maple syrup, or cinnamon as preferred.
  8. Serve the mashed sweet potatoes warm, garnished with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
