Spanish Montaditos
Montaditos are a cherished tradition from Spain, specifically popular in its southern region, Andalusia. These mouthwatering mini sandwiches are the heart and soul of Spanish tapas culture, featuring an array of flavors combined in a perfect bite. Our recipe brings together the classic combination of Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, and green olives, nestled on top of a garlic and tomato-rubbed toast, creating a symphony of flavors that'll make you feel like you're sitting in a lively Spanish tapas bar.
Ingredients
- Green olives
- 1/4 cup, sliced
- Manchego cheese
- 8 thin slices
- Serrano ham
- 8 thin slices
- Tomato
- 1 medium, cut in half
- Garlic
- 1 clove, cut in half
- Olive oil
- 2 tablespoons
- Baguette
- 1, cut into 8 slices
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and evenly drizzle them with olive oil.
- Toast the baguette slices in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, or until they are lightly toasted and crispy.
- Once the bread is toasted, carefully rub the cut side of the garlic clove onto each slice, followed by the cut side of the tomato. This will infuse the bread with a subtle, aromatic flavor.
- Next, layer each slice of bread with a slice of Serrano ham and a slice of Manchego cheese.
- Return the montaditos to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese has beautifully melted.
- Finish by topping each montadito with a few slices of green olive. Serve immediately and enjoy the authentic taste of Spanish tapas at home!
Tips
- For an added twist, you can also include a thin slice of roasted red pepper or a sprinkle of smoked paprika before the final baking step.
- To make it vegetarian, replace Serrano ham with a slice of grilled eggplant or zucchini.
