Grilled Moreton Bay Bugs with Garlic Butter Sauce

Savor the taste of the ocean with these succulent Grilled Moreton Bay Bugs, a delicacy often referred to as 'lobster tails'. Grilled to perfection and brushed with a rich, aromatic garlic butter sauce, this dish is a celebration of coastal flavors. Originating from the waters of Australia, Moreton Bay Bugs are known for their sweet, tender meat and are perfect for a summer barbecue or a special occasion. Serve them with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a sprinkle of parsley for an unforgettable seafood experience.

Ingredients

Moreton Bay Bugs
4, halved lengthwise
Butter
1/2 cup, melted
Garlic
4 cloves, minced
Lemon
1, juiced
Fresh parsley
1/4 cup, chopped
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Carefully cut the Moreton Bay Bugs in half lengthwise, ensuring not to cut through the shell.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, melted butter, lemon juice, and chopped parsley. Mix well to create the garlic butter sauce.
  4. Brush the garlic butter mixture generously onto the cut side of the Moreton Bay Bugs. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Place the Moreton Bay Bugs cut side down on the preheated grill. Cook for 4-5 minutes, allowing the meat to absorb the smoky flavors.
  6. Turn the Moreton Bay Bugs over and brush with more of the garlic butter mixture. Grill for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the meat is opaque and cooked through.
  7. Remove from the grill and serve immediately with any remaining garlic butter sauce drizzled over the top and a wedge of lemon on the side.

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter sauce.
  • 💡 Pair with a crisp white wine or a light lager to complement the flavors.
  • 💡 You can substitute Moreton Bay Bugs with lobster tails or shrimp for a different seafood experience.
