Instructions

  1. If you are making homemade olive salad, combine 1 cup of chopped mixed olives (green and black), 1/2 cup diced celery, 2 cloves minced garlic, 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Slice the round Italian bread in half horizontally to create a top and bottom half. If desired, lightly toast the insides of the bread for added texture.
  3. Spread a generous amount of the prepared olive salad on the bottom half of the bread, making sure to cover it evenly.
  4. Layer the mortadella, salami, ham, provolone, and Swiss cheese on top of the olive salad, creating a colorful and inviting display.
  5. Drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil over the layered ingredients and season with freshly cracked black pepper.
  6. Carefully place the top half of the bread over the layered ingredients, pressing down gently to compress the sandwich.
  7. Wrap the entire sandwich in parchment paper or foil and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This resting period allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
  8. When ready to serve, cut the sandwich into quarters or wedges and enjoy the delicious combination of flavors and textures.
