Instructions
- If you are making homemade olive salad, combine 1 cup of chopped mixed olives (green and black), 1/2 cup diced celery, 2 cloves minced garlic, 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.
- Slice the round Italian bread in half horizontally to create a top and bottom half. If desired, lightly toast the insides of the bread for added texture.
- Spread a generous amount of the prepared olive salad on the bottom half of the bread, making sure to cover it evenly.
- Layer the mortadella, salami, ham, provolone, and Swiss cheese on top of the olive salad, creating a colorful and inviting display.
- Drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil over the layered ingredients and season with freshly cracked black pepper.
- Carefully place the top half of the bread over the layered ingredients, pressing down gently to compress the sandwich.
- Wrap the entire sandwich in parchment paper or foil and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This resting period allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
- When ready to serve, cut the sandwich into quarters or wedges and enjoy the delicious combination of flavors and textures.
Tips
- For a spicier kick, add sliced pepperoncini or a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes to the olive salad.
- Feel free to customize your meats and cheeses based on your preferences—roast beef or turkey can be great alternatives!
- To make it vegetarian, substitute the meats with roasted vegetables or additional cheese.
