Ingredients

Original recipe serves 10

Rice flour
2 cups
Water
3/4 cup (adjust as needed)
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Ghee (clarified butter)
2 tablespoons (for the filling and greasing)
Molasses
1/2 cup
Sesame seeds
1/2 cup, toasted
Cardamom powder
1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, water, and salt. Knead well until you achieve a smooth and pliable dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, a tablespoon at a time.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the toasted sesame seeds, molasses, 1 tablespoon of ghee, and cardamom powder to create a rich and aromatic filling.
  3. Divide the dough into small portions, about the size of a golf ball. Roll each portion into a small disc, ensuring it is slightly thicker at the edges.
  4. Shape the disc into a small cup by gently pushing in the center. Fill each cup with the sesame-molasses mixture, being careful not to overfill. Pinch and seal the edges tightly to form a dumpling.
  5. Grease the steamer basket with the remaining ghee to prevent sticking. Place the dumplings in the basket, leaving space between them for steaming.
  6. Steam the dumplings for about 20 minutes, or until they become translucent and firm to the touch.
  7. Remove from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your warm Yomari as a delightful dessert or snack!

Tips

  • 💡 You can add grated coconut or chopped nuts to the filling for added texture and flavor.
  • 💡 To make Yomari more festive, try using different colored rice flour to create a visually appealing presentation.
