Instructions
- In a large pot, add the peeled and cubed potatoes and cover them with cold salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.
- While the potatoes are cooking, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them and return them to the pot. Add the sautéed onion and garlic mixture, remaining butter, warmed milk, salt, and black pepper.
- Using a potato masher or fork, mash the potatoes until they reach your desired level of creaminess. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
- Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish and sprinkle with chopped chives for a fresh finish.
- Serve hot, and savor the delightful flavors!
Tips
- For a richer flavor, you can substitute half of the milk with sour cream or cream cheese.
- Try adding grated Parmesan cheese for a cheesy twist or a pinch of smoked paprika for a hint of smokiness.
- You can also use Yukon Gold potatoes for a naturally buttery flavor.
