Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté until they are soft and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Once cooked, remove the onions and peppers from the skillet and set them aside.
- Season the thinly sliced steak with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
- In the same skillet, cook the seasoned steak slices for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
- When the steak is nearly done, place the provolone cheese slices on top of the cooked steak slices and cover the skillet with a lid. Allow the cheese to melt, about 1-2 minutes.
- While the cheese melts, toast the hoagie rolls in a toaster or under a broiler until lightly golden.
- Assemble the sandwiches by layering the steak with melted cheese, sautéed onions, and peppers on the toasted hoagie rolls.
- For an extra kick, drizzle your favorite hot sauce on top before closing the sandwich.
- Serve hot and enjoy your Ultimate Onion and Pepper Steak Sandwich!
Tips
- For a smoky flavor, try grilling the steak instead of cooking it on the stovetop.
- Feel free to add other toppings such as jalapeños, mushrooms, or even avocado for extra creaminess.
- Pair with a side of homemade coleslaw or crispy potato wedges for a delicious meal.
