Servings: 4

Ingredients

Pizza dough
1 lb, store-bought or homemade
Olive oil
2 tablespoons, divided
Onion
1 large, thinly sliced
Tomato
2 medium, thinly sliced
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Fresh basil
1/4 cup, chopped
Salt
1/2 teaspoon, to taste
Pepper
1/4 teaspoon, to taste
Balsamic glaze
to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook, stirring frequently, until caramelized and soft, about 10-15 minutes. Lower the heat if the onions brown too quickly.
  3. While the onions are caramelizing, roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness, typically about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Brush the dough with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil, ensuring it is evenly coated.
  6. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the dough, allowing them to reach the edges.
  7. Arrange the sliced tomatoes on top of the onions, overlapping slightly for an appealing presentation.
  8. Sprinkle the minced garlic, chopped basil, salt, and pepper evenly over the tomatoes.
  9. For an extra touch, drizzle balsamic glaze over the top before baking.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
  11. Once baked, remove the flatbread from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  12. Serve warm, drizzled with extra olive oil or balsamic glaze if desired, and enjoy!
